Boomr Bin Plug V2 is Here!

After several rounds of testing, redesigning, and community feedback, I'm excited to release Boomr Bin Plug V2 as a free download.

The original plugs worked well and accomplished what I set out to do, but after multiple grows I found several areas where they could be improved. Rather than making a few small changes, I decided to redesign the plugs with easier cleaning, better usability, and long-term reliability in mind.

What's New in Version 2?

Thinner and More Flexible

One of the biggest improvements is the overall profile of the plug. Version 2 uses thinner walls, making it more flexible while still maintaining a secure fit in the Boomr Bin. The added flexibility also makes installation and removal easier without compromising performance.

Reduced Internal Surface Area

A major focus of this redesign was reducing unnecessary surface area inside the Boomr Bin.

With FDM 3D printing, every sharp corner, recessed feature, and exposed layer line creates additional places where debris can accumulate. While proper cleaning and sterile technique remain the most important factors in preventing contamination, I wanted the design itself to be as easy to clean as possible.

To accomplish this, I simplified the geometry wherever I could without affecting the function of the plug. The result is a cleaner design with fewer unnecessary surfaces exposed to the inside of the tub.

Continuing to Improve Surface Finishing

Surface finish is something I'm still actively researching.

I've been experimenting with both thermal and chemical finishing methods to further smooth TPU parts and reduce the roughness that comes with FDM printing. Those experiments are still ongoing, and I don't consider any of those processes finalized enough to recommend as part of the standard design.

For now, I believe the biggest improvement came from redesigning the geometry itself. By eliminating unnecessary features and producing a cleaner overall shape, Version 2 is a meaningful step forward from the original design. As I continue testing new finishing techniques, I'll share what I learn with the community.

Compatible with the Magnetic Quick Disconnect

Boomr Bin Plug V2 is fully compatible with my Magnetic Quick Disconnect.

The Quick Disconnect allows the Boomr Bin exhaust fan to be removed and reinstalled in seconds, making harvesting, cleaning, and maintenance much more convenient without needing to remove the plug from the tub.

Built Through Community Feedback

One of the best parts of sharing these projects is seeing how other growers use them.

Many of the improvements in Version 2 came from real-world use, observations during my own grows, and feedback from people who downloaded and printed the original version. Every suggestion, print report, and conversation has helped shape this release.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the project by testing the files and sharing your experiences.

Free to Download

Like all of my community projects, Boomr Bin Plug V2 is completely free to download.

What's Next?

While I don't consider this project completely finished, I think Version 2 is in a great place. I'll continue listening to feedback and making improvements if the community uncovers issues or has ideas that would meaningfully improve the design.

For now, though, it's time to move on to something new.

The next project I want to explore is making the filters on the Boom Room II faster and easier to swap. It's still in the early prototyping stage, and I have several ideas I'd like to test before sharing anything publicly. Once I have some promising results, I'll post the prototypes and document the design process just like I have with the Boomr Bin accessories.

As always, if you print a set, I'd love to hear your feedback. Whether it's a success, a failure, or simply an idea for improvement, every bit of real-world experience helps make the next revision even better.

Happy growing!
